Anchored by the Blue Ridge Mountains and located less than one mile from downtown Clayton, Georgia is a tranquil respite offering gourmet dining at its casual best. The Stockton House is a Rabun County tradition and is hailed by many local residents as the best restaurant in the area and our vacation rental suites have been providing quiet, comfortable accommodations for over 21 years.
It's been said Rabun County is where spring goes to spend the summer and from the vast acreage of the Chattahoochee National Forest to the three state parks at Black Rock Mountain, Moccasin Creek and Tallulah Gorge. Rabun County offers something for everyone.
The Stockton House Restaurant is owned by John and Joann Pierce of Clayton, Ga., and Dave and Kathy Heitz of Sylva, NC. John and Joann are from Tampa Florida and initially moved to Clayton to retire and enjoy the slower pace of life. That lifestyle was great for a couple of years until John discovered The Stockton House property was for sale. Having been in the restaurant and lounge business in Florida, John was ready to hang up retirement and get back to work. The rest is history.
Joann, having never been in the restaurant business, had no idea what she was getting into, but The Stockton House has been open over five years under their management. John oversees the bookkeeping end of the business and Joann likes to make sure the customers are greeted and made to feel at home.
Joann says, "The Stockton House is like an extension of our home and we want everyone to feel welcome." Southern hospitality comes natural for them, and they want their customers to experience that along with the great food.
The Stockton House has undergone some extensive remodeling in the past five years. A new dining room addition was added two years ago, and this past winter, a new outdoor dining deck was added. This summer the new deck will be home to live entertainment on the weekends; some wine dinners are going to be scheduled along with outdoor grilling events and also a few cooking classes.
